I'm just your average Millennial, obsessed with staying home, binge-watching Parks & Rec and drinking all the Diet Coke in the house. I am a lover of Israel Diaz, female led businesses and long flowy dresses.
Welcome to my home on the internet where we talk life, theology, womanhood, marriage and work.

If you’re curious how to add variety to your senior session while only planning for one outfit, then stick around. In this blog post, I’m going to show you how to get some variety in your final images without having a single outfit change.
Maybe you’re coming from out of town, or maybe you couldn’t find any other outfits that you love as much as the outfit you’re planning for your senior session – whatever the reason, there are a few ways we can add some variety to your final images so that you don’t end up with a gallery full of images that look basically the same. There are 3 basic ways I like to do this: Location and Posing, Props, and Activities.

Sometimes a single location has a lot of variety and offers several different vignettes for us to take advantage of. Whether its beautiful landmarks, trails, greenery – if we choose wisely, one location can look as though you went to multiple different locations.
Likewise, posing can give us a multitude of options even if we’re in one single location or vignette. Some of my clients come with a few inspiration photos they found online, but oftentimes we get natural, relaxed-looking poses with my posing guidance. My worst fear when I get in front of a camera is for someone to say to me, “Okay, just look natural,” so I do my best to give my clients easy and specific instructions to help them “look natural.”

Props are typically the easiest way to add variety to your final gallery. A few personal, or sentimental objects for you to interact with or focus on, usually helps us tell the story of this season of your life in an even more tangible way. For senior sessions, a tassel, a cap and gown, or a letterman’s jacket is usually sufficient, but to personalize your session even more, try to think of things that have been meaningful to you during this time of your life. Maybe something that really helped you get through this season, or perhaps something that you may be leaving behind in this season as you look forward to a new chapter (this client brought her childhood toy, and it was so sweet!).

Whether we’re drawing in the sand, frolicking through the water, or wading in the waves on the shore, different types of activities can bring a little more life to your final images. While not everyone is up for the adventure of getting all wet and sandy in their clothes, activities like this can make for some really fun, and often beautiful images. Maybe your senior likes to throw the football around, or juggle their soccer ball, or loves to paint – activities give us the opportunity to capture people in their element, while also bringing some movement and vitality to a still image.
These are just a few ways to get some photos you will love in your final gallery if an outfit change is not in the cards for you. If you’re interested in taking some senior photos, let me know by submitting a form below! I would love to help you plan something.
