One of the sweetest gifts of being a family photographer is watching your clients turn into friends.

I have been working with the Alzate family since their little girl was two. Now, nearly three years later, their family is growing by one more person so we met up in La Jolla, CA to document and get their holiday photos done early. As I was taking their photos, realizing how much bigger, more independent, and older “C” is now, I was struck with the weight of blessing this trade has given me. I didn’t know Cat when she asked me to come take photos of her daughter’s second birthday, but a handful of family sessions later, and a couple of years down the road, I now see Cat as an old friend, and watching your friend’s family grow is such a privilege.

The Alzates are some of the sweetest people. Their daughter, C, is full of life and has the most adventurous, fearless spirit. I love that they have always seemed to nurture that spirit, and let her be herself. They are patient and compassionate parents, gentle and loving. Their kind-hearted personalities make for really sweet and rich family sessions. Here is a sneak peek of their La Jolla family session:
