Once I lost my teenage body and started growing my Mexican birthing hips, I hid myself from every lens that pointed in my direction. I didn't think I could look good in photos anymore and I could not, for the LOVE of all that is holy, find my good side. I'd heard that good photos were all about good angles, but it seemed to me that all the good angles were taken, and I was stuck with the ones that gave me double chins and a wide back.
And that was a real bummer because all my friends had really cute Instagram photos and gallery walls that looked like they ripped them out of a magazine. I wanted that, too!
I WANTED IMAGES OF ME AND MY FAMILY THAT WOULD GIVE ME ALL THE HEART EYES.
I needed to figure out a way to pose myself, so I started practicing on EVERYONE. Pretty soon, I was getting the hang of it and all my friends wanted me to take their photos because, well...they looked AMAZING.
When I picked up my camera for the first time, I had no idea that I was going to turn my desire to look cute on Instagram into a full fledged business. But once I realized that my girlfriends felt GOOD in front of my camera and loved sharing their images with everyone, I knew I was on to something that went much deeper than social media. I loved watching my friends' insecurities melt away as they saw how incredible they could look on camera and finally have the lifestyle images they always wanted. It was like for the first time they saw themselves how I saw them.
"I was really dreading this day since I haven't been feeling like I recognize my own body anymore but Jess is a f****** fantastic photographer who made Anthony and me feel like models and has me even more excited to meet our sweet girl. 10/10 recommend this lady for any photography."
"If you want amazing family photos that will be your most favorite ever, go to Jess! She is SO sweet and talented and makes the whole thing fun and easy!"
"We love our photos from Jess! She makes you feel SO GOOD in front of the camera and makes your vision become real life"
"Before our session I was feeling nervous, but Jess made me feel like a model in front of the camera. My husband typically doesn’t love to take photos but after our session he couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had and how thankful he was we did them! I seriously want to print and share all these photos, they are freaking beautiful!"
I usually always have cookie dough on hand (for raw eating, of course) but every once in a while, when it's really necessary, I'll whip 'em up from scratch. Fresh baked cookies are my love language.
He was the new guy in Women's Shoes and I was running the store's social media account. We met in the stock room where I was pulling shoes to feature. He asked about school and said he was looking for a church so I invited him to mine. That Sunday we talked on the phone for THREE HOURS! I knew it then and I've never loved anybody more.
In fact, I majored in theology at Point Loma Nazarene University. (Funner fact: that's what piqued Izzy's interest! He'd never heard of anyone going to school for theology) I'm an avid listener of The Bible Project and love studying my Bible. I know, sounds boring, but holy s*** it can really rock your world.
I said what I said, people. If you don't already know this irrefutable fact, I dare you to try my order on for size: Large Diet Coke with extra ice. It's only a dollar, my friends!
